A special chapter is dedicated to double overhead camshaft motorcycles designed by Ernest Henry and his successors. Armand PEUGEOT left the Fils de Peugeot Frères to create his own automobile company, the Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot in 1897. Robert PEUGEOT, boss of the Fils de Peugeot Frères, must apply the non-competition clause and therefore refrain from manufacturing cars. But, in 1903, Robert negotiated with Armand the possibility of manufacturing carts under the Lion Peugeot brand, for a fee. When Automobiles Peugeot withdrew from competitions, Robert decided to launch it, under his own brand, in 1906. A first team is formed which will bear the name WIZARDS. She won numerous cart events thanks to engines developed by engineers MICHAUX and VERDET. In 1910, the two brands came together, under the direction of Robert PEUGEOT. The following year, Jules GOUX, one of the wizards' drivers, suggested that he now compete in the Grands Prix in order to give France and Peugeot back their places in the concert of world manufacturers. They will be called CHARLATANS. The solutions implemented, developed by engineer Ernest HENRY, were innovative and world firsts, allowing the brand to maintain a significant lead over the competition for many years. This work retraces the epic tale of these two teams of engineers, technicians and drivers who triumphed on the French, European and American circuits. Like gladiators entering an arena, some lost their lives, others gained fame, all worked hard for the glory of the brand. Numerous illustrations and color photos. 214 pages Size 30.5 x 21.5 cm Author: Bernard DERELLE
